Ten resolutions to keep you young and healthy for 2022

The New Year is a time for resolutions, but what could be better than ten resolutions that have a longevity focus? 

Lots of people make New Year’s resolutions, heading into the New Year firmly determined to delete blurry photos, get more sleep or clean the car regularly. Many people make resolutions brimming with optimism and hope, and 2022 is certainly a year deserving of optimism! According to a recent YouGovAmerica survey, the most popular resolutions concern becoming healthier, personal improvement or happiness, so we were delighted when Sergey Young shared his top ten resolutions with us. So read on and enter 2022 happier and healthier than ever.

1. Check yourself

Visit your doctor for a check-up – the earlier things are spotted and treated, the better. Prevention is always better than cure, and your physician can also offer advice on diet, exercise and supplementation.

2. Quit bad habits

Leave bad habits like smoking, drinking and sugar behind. Heart disease is the world’s biggest killer, refined sugars can increase your risk of obesity and type 2 diabetes (as well as being linked to depression, dementia, liver disease and cancer) and cancer needs no dire warning. Time to quit!

3. Avoid unnecessary risks

Don’t live in fear, but be cautious. Humans are rather fond of risks, and while they may have paid off in our early history (hunting mammoth and winning mates), activities such as sky diving or cliff jumping, or antisocial behaviour like drugs or crime can spell disaster for longevity.

4. Eat early – and less often

Remove excess calories and eat earlier. Dietary restriction has been shown time and again to extend lifespan and encourage cellular regeneration.

5. Let food be thy medicine

Eat a balanced diet. A healthy diet is essential for good health and nutrition, providing you with energy and protecting against many diseases. Include plenty of fruits, vegetable, protein and calcium and consume less salt, sugars and saturated and industrially-produced trans-fats.

6. Supplement your nutrition

Use supplements to make up for deficiencies in your diet. A healthy diet is essential, but often needs supplementation. Tests can show which supplements might be beneficial for you, or what can be on-boarded for a healthy aging journey.

7. Get on up!

Stay moving and avoid long periods of inactivity. Keeping active is part of maintaining a healthy weight and can help reduce the risk of cancer, depression, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, strokes and high cholesterol. Physical activity can also boost your mood, improve your energy levels and help you fall into a deeper sleep more quickly. And it’s fun too!

8. Make sleep your superpower

Get enough sleep each night. Sleep plays an important role in your physical health, as it’s a time for the body to repair and grow. Ongoing sleep deficiency is linked to an increased risk of disease, as well as having a negative effect on your mood and mental health.

9. Mindfulness over matter

Practise mindfulness meditation. The mental health benefits of meditation include better focus and concentration, improved self-awareness and self-esteem and lower levels of stress and anxiety. Meditation also has benefits for your physical health, helping to combat the harmful effects of stress.

­­10. Think and grow young

Embrace mind-body connection by thinking young. Mind and body are closely connected – and it’s a two-way street. Yoga can promote neurotransmitters, body chemistry can affect mood and stress and depression can influence organ function. Embracing longevity can foster real, long-term benefits.
